In May, the Medical center “100% Life” is celebrating its first anniversary in Kyiv. This is the first medical facility that was opened in the capital involving the public. “In the first year, more than 2,000 patients received medical services in our center. We joined the medical reform with confidence. Almost half a dozen Kyiv residents signed declarations with our family doctors. More than 700 children were vaccinated. It’s not about just numbers, I mean the patients’ trust, the professionalism of doctors, and the principle of absolute tolerance and inclusiveness in relation to every visitor,” said Dmytro Sherembei, the chairperson of CO “100% Life”. “We have converted our principles of the struggle for the patients’ lives in the standards of medical care.”
Centers are an open space for all categories of patients – this is the basic principle of all medical centers “100% Life”. Today, the center provides the following services:
- Family medicine
- Vaccination of adults and children
- Consultations by a gynecologist, a neuropathologist, a dermatologist, a narcologist, a psychiatrist, an infection disease doctor, and a colorectal surgeon
- Testing for HIV and hepatitis
- Hepatitis C treatment
- Removing tumors (moles, papillomas, birthmarks, etc.)
- Massage.
The Medical center “100% Life” was opened on May 18, 2018, in Kyiv and within a week the legendary singer and philanthropist Sir Elton John visited the center at the invitation of the Olena Pinchuk Foundation. He highly appreciated the activities of the CO “100% Life” and left his autograph on one of the walls of the center. Sir Elton John called the Medical center “100% Life” the incredible success of the public movement.
“I believe that every person, regardless of the diagnosis, has the right to life. We have long lived in reality when people with HIV were at the very end of the list; they had to hide their status and did not even expect to receive quality service. For years, they made us believe that our patients deserved hospitals in poor condition, careless doctors and poor quality treatment. But we did not retreat from our goals. People with HIV and their relatives did not give up. And today we can confidently say that our patients can count on the best doctors, modern equipment and state-of-the-art technologies. Activists have done what the state did not have time to do. The first Medical center “100% Life”, opened in 2018 by the patients’ community in Kyiv, is a standard of care for people with HIV and not only for them. We believe that, with the emergence of such a point on the capital’s map, major changes in the provision of assistance to people with HIV are just the beginning,” commented Olga Rudneva, the director of the Olena Pinchuk Foundation.
The project of the Medical Center “100% Life” was developed with the financial support of such international donors as the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and the Expertise France 5% Initiative. The modern medical equipment of the gynecological department was purchased with the help of the Olena Pinchuk Foundation.
The pilot center was opened in Poltava during the fall of 2016. Kyiv became the second city where the Medical center “100% Life” was opened. Currently, repairs are completed in two centers of Chernihiv and Zaporizhzhia.
