We invite everyone to the charity show “Oscar in Mikhailovsky”!
On October 6, 2017, at 7:00 p.m., we invite everyone to a charity performance and an open reading of the play Oscar and the Lady in Pink by Eric–Emmanuel Schmitt, which will take place on the territory of the St. Michael’s Golden–Domed Monastery in Kyiv on the occasion of the World Hospice and Palliative Care Day.
Oscar and the Lady in Pink is a novel written by the French author and playwright Eric–Emmanuel Schmitt about a boy named Oscar, who was diagnosed with cancer. Oscar’s history provided the basis for a play of the Ivano–Frankivsk National Academic Music and Drama Theatre named after Ivan Franko. During the performance, Oscar talks about his life. The theatre and cinema actress Irma Vitovska also takes part in the theatrical event.
The World Hospice and Palliative Care Day is celebrated every second Saturday in October, and this day is intended to draw the attention of the general public to the problems and needs of people with incurable diseases and their family members and to promote the development of hospices and palliative care centers. The purpose of the event is to enhance the relevance of palliative care and increase awareness of necessity to implement a relative programme in Kyiv, as it has already been done in Ivano-Frankivsk, Odesa, and Lviv because Kyiv is currently not a leader in the provision of palliative care.
After the performance, representatives of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, government agencies, leading public figures, heads of churches, spiritual leaders, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), diplomatic institutions, artists and journalists will participate in a public discussion about the state of palliative care in Kyiv and Ukraine.
Among the guests, there will be representatives of the All-Ukrainian Network of PLWH, the Acting Minister of Health Ulana Suprun, the Head of the Service for Children and Family Valerii Tantsiura, the Patriarchal Governor, the Metropolitan of Pereiaslav-Khmelnytskyi and Bilotserkivskyi (the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate) Epiphanii, the Manager of the Public Health Programme Initiative of IF “Renaissance” Kseniya Shapoval-Deinega, representatives of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations, the Consul of the Republic of Poland in Ukraine Iga Kacha, and representatives of UNAIDS.
Money for development of the system of palliative care provision will also be raised during the event. The charitable contribution is voluntary and is not obligatory for participation.
Money can be put in donation boxes placed on the territory of the monastery or transferred to the account:
